Before you whiten your teeth

To ensure that the treatment is safe and you feel confident, a basic examination by a dentist is always performed before the whitening begins. You need to have good oral health and be over 19 years of age.

Before the actual whitening, a dentist will assess whether the treatment is suitable for you. If everything looks good, individually fitted trays will be made for gentle and easy at-home whitening.

If the dentist determines that whitening cannot be performed, you will only pay SEK 795 for a basic examination (regular price SEK 1100). If certain preparatory measures are needed, such as removing plaque or repairing cavities, additional costs will be incurred, and the whitening can then be performed at the same price as offered.

Home bleaching

Before we start your teeth whitening treatment, we will carefully determine whether you need to remove tartar or if other measures need to be taken before teeth whitening.

Our dental technicians will make a whitening tray that is completely customized to your teeth. You will collect the tray after 1-2 weeks. Together with your dentist or dental hygienist, you will go through the treatment process. You will decide on the strength of the teeth whitening and how to care for your teeth during your teeth whitening.

A teeth whitening gel is applied to the thin, custom-fit whitening tray. Most people choose to whiten their teeth overnight and sleep with the tray, but it is of course also possible to whiten your teeth during the day. The treatment time for teeth whitening varies, depending on the result you as a patient want to achieve and how your teeth look to begin with.

The most common treatment period is between 3-5 days. Most people can see a change after the first treatment.

Things to consider after treatment

Avoid colored food and drinks for three days as the bleaching process continues, such as coffee, tea, Coca Cola, soy, tomato sauces, beetroot, curry, chocolate, colored toothpaste, etc. Also avoid tobacco and red wine.

Drink plenty of water to quickly restore balance in your teeth. It is also important that you are careful with your oral hygiene and brush your teeth morning and night, use white toothpaste and rinse with a fluoride solution such as Dentan.

Side effects

After treatment, you may sometimes experience a tingling sensation, but this is temporary and will disappear within a couple of days. Some patients may experience some discoloration or white spots, but this is also temporary and will disappear after about 1-2 weeks.

Any staining is due to the composition of molecules in the dentin (tooth bone). If and when this happens, the enamel needs a little extra time to become even in color after teeth whitening. According to the Swedish Medical Products Agency, you must be over 18 years of age to whiten your teeth.
