Gum shields

We match the thickness of your gum shield to the sport you play. Gum shields are constructed of several layers of different materials; a soft inner and a hard outer layer.

A gum shield cannot completely eliminate damage to the teeth in the event of a powerful impact, but can significantly limit that damage. At City Dental we will make a gum shield that is fully customised to your teeth or those of your child.

Gum shields for hockey players

Hockey is one of the toughest sports to play, that is obvious from all to the protective gear needed. Teeth are one of the most vulnerable parts of the body, and close tackles with a stick are the usual cause of damage to them.

In the 2003/2004 season, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association adopted a new rule. This states that all players born in 1984 or later, who are allowed to play without a cage, must wear a gum shield. This gum shield must be made by a dentist. Children and young people must play wearing a cage until they are 18, after that then can play with a visor and gum shield.

Gum shields for martial artists

If you take part in martial arts (Thai boxing, boxing or rugby for example) there are often rules that state that you must wear a gum shield when you play your sport. For example, a boxer must always wear an individually fitted gum shield.
