City Dental is a dental clinic in Stockholm that strives to offer dental care that is safe, calm and tailored to each patient’s individual needs. Every day we meet patients who experience dental fear, also known as dental fear and dental phobia, to varying degrees and we have great understanding and experience of helping you who feel anxious or afraid. We work actively to ensure that you can always feel safe and calm with us. Please tell us about your concerns or fears before your visit. You should know that you are not alone in feeling some anxiety or discomfort before your dental visit. Approximately 1-3 out of 5 people experience some form of anxiety or fear before a dental visit, and approximately 1 in 10 people suffer from dental phobia or fear of the dentist so severe that they avoid going to the dentist. <\/span><\/p>\n

What is dental fear? <\/span><\/h2>\n

Dental fear and dental phobia occur at all ages and are equally prevalent among women and men. <\/span>Some people experience anxiety and feelings of discomfort before their dental visit, others experience panic-like feelings to the point that they avoid going to the dentist or dental hygienist even though there is a need, and some have developed a dental phobia (odontophobia).<\/span><\/p>\n

How does dental fear manifest itself?<\/span><\/h2>\n

How dental fear manifests itself differs from person to person. Some may appear completely calm on the outside while on the inside they are panicking and feeling that the treatment will have terrible consequences. <\/span><\/p>\n

Others experience physical symptoms such as heart palpitations, nausea, shaking, or sweating at the thought of dental care. Some say they know nothing dangerous will happen, but still experience anxiety and fear. <\/span><\/p>\n

What causes dental fear?<\/span><\/h2>\n

The reason why dental fear has arisen also differs from person to person. It is usually not possible to find any direct, single reason why someone feels dental fear, but it is often about a feeling of losing control or due to previous experiences.
